First meetings.
Zephyr trudged through the snow. It was the middle of winter, his favorite time of year of course, and he was on his way to his favorite place. This part of the forest, a place no one else knew about, was a spectacular sight in the winter. In the spring summer and fall it was a wet place, too wet for even the tougher trees to grow well, but not wet enough to be proper swamp. This was one of those rare places that was only beautiful in the winter.
As he stepped into the clearing just before his special place he heard a sound behind him. Expecting a group of bullies from school to be after him. It had only been two years after all, they still hadn't learned he wouldn't put up with them. He turned quickly and cut out the light, rendering everything, and everyone, in a fifty foot area blind for the next 30 seconds, unless he canceled his power early.
He did not see a bully. He saw a girl. Or it could have been a boy, but he was fairly sure it was a girl. Covered in scraps of cloth that may have at one time been a pair of sweatpants and a long sleeve shirt. She was obviously freezing, and was not wearing shoes, despite the cold. For Zephyr it was comfortable, but then Zephyr would be comfortable in subzero temps. He checked the temp with a quick thought, it was only fifteen degrees F. This kid was gonna die if he didn't do something.
Despite what everyone thought, Zephyr was not what you would call ill willed. He liked people, and wanted to be liked by others, but, he got so angry when people picked on those weaker. He walked over to the girl. She was trying to find her way away from him, but being blind she wasn't getting far. Then he saw her ears. Then she turned around, facing away and he saw the tail.
"By the chill of the North wind..." This was quite a sight. Too bad she wasn't a little older, maybe thirteen or fourteen. Ten year olds held no appeal for him. He placed a hand on her shoulder and she jumped.
"Easy now. I've a place up ahead, there's clothing and food. You look like you need it. Now I'm going to take the power off you, don't hit me." He took the snow blind off her and she looked at him eyes wide." What?"
"You can see me. No one sees me..."
