The summer sun shone brightly in the blue, cloudless sky. This sort of weather would make most people feel extremely warm, but for the young zombie named Nicolas, the weather didn't matter one bit cause he always felt cold. Despite the large, black coat stowed around his shoulders and the multicoloured scarf wrapped around the lower half of his face, the boy felt cold. An initial glance at Nicolas would suggest that he was an absolute idiot for wandering about in this sort of attire, but of course they would be mistaken. The need to dawn heavy clothing was one of the many negatives of being a zombie, and unfortunately there were quite a few negatives. After passing through Paradise in order to get to the Paradise Cemetery, Nicolas sighed in relief at the lack of people at the tombstone covered hillside. The young zombie had already gone through a minefield of staring people and some comments on his "idiocy".
Nicolas found that not many strived to learn the reason for his attire nor did they attempt to ponder said reason. The reason was a simple one, Nicolas constantly cold due to the fact that his species needed less blood than a human. For hours the boy could complain about how he was always freezing. While Nicolas walked he felt the soft fur of his pet mouse, Nemo, snuggling against his neck. Nemo enjoyed using Nicolas's cold skin to cool down in the heat. In a mist of silence, Nicolas walked up the beaten dirt path of the cemetery. Spirit essence fluttered around the graveyard, which was common considering this was the resting place of bodies. The zombie's dull, hazel eyes shifted in search of spirits, specifically one of the little girl who was looking for someone to play hide and seek. As usual, Nicolas's face remained a reserved void as he walked towards the meeting place. The back of the graveyard made for an excellent place for the blond-haired boy to meet the spirit girl who desperately wanted a playmate.
As Nicolas began to approach the back section of the cemetery, the gravestones began to shift from modern ones to rustic stone ones. When Nicolas neared the section, a small, purple orb rushed over towards him with joy radiating. The colour a spirit had was often determined by what the spirit's favored colour was (or at least with Nic's vision), so obviously the girl liked the colour purple. "You came! You came!" The girl spirit's voice called as it circled around him with excitement. Momentarily a smile flashed onto Nicolas's face at the excitement coming from the spirit. "Yep, now do you want to play?" Nicolas responded, making certain his voice sounded kind. The zombie usually had a severe stuttering problem, but that was only with living people. Spirits never made the young man nervous, mostly because they seemed to enjoy his very presence and never would shun him for a single stutter. "YES! Of course I am! Now start counting to 50 mister," the spirit starting before adding. "AND NO PEEKING!" A soft chuckle was Nicolas's answer to that. Nicolas closed his eyes while the spirit floated off to find herself a hiding place. Whilst the spirit searched for a hiding place, Nicolas began counting to 50 in his head, allowing the spirit ample time to hide in the field of tombstones. Once Nicolas reached 50, he opened his and shouted, "Ready or not here I come." Afterwards, he secretly prayed that nobody heard that and was wondering what kind of person played in a cemetery... Not to mention people who didn't have any gifts that allowed them to see spirits would think he was crazy. With that, Nicolas began searching for the purple orb.
